PÂTE DE VERRE WORKSHOP
Blue Pate De Verre Bowl
What is Pâte de Verre?
Pâte de Verre is a kiln casting technique that translates to "paste of glass". Glass frit or powder are mixed with a binder such as gum Arabic, PVA glue or gelatine. Then the glass paste is applied to the inner surface of a negative glass plaster mould. This mould is then fired in the on-site kiln.
You will learn how to
Create your own designs on pre-made plaster moulds
Mix the glass and binder to make the glass paste and apply to your mould.
How long is the workshop and what is the schedule?
The workshop will run over three hours on selected Saturdays. The schedule of the workshop will include an introduction to the tutor and Pate De Verre technique. The tutor will demo how to create designs on pre-made moulds, and how to mix and apply glass paste to the mould. Student/s will create their own designs and apply glass paste to the moulds. The kiln will be loaded with Final Pieces.
***The kiln firing will take a week - Please note that if the temperature of my studio is above 32 degrees I won't fire the kiln as this can cause issues with the firing and glass may not fire correctly. I will let you know the date of collection if I need to hold off the kiln firing.
