FROZEN FRACTALS:
THE ART OF GLASS & SNOWFLAKES
“Dive into frozen fractals with glass artist Kira Phoenix K'inan! Discover how mesmerising fractal patterns appear in both her glass art and the natural beauty of snowflakes. A creative journey into the world of patterns!”
Kira Phoenix K'inan's work brings together fine art and craft through works on paper, glass sculptures, installations, and multi-exposure photography which are sustainably and ethically produced in her London based studio. Today her collections are known for their rich colour palette and optical qualities.
SNOWFLAKES & FRACTALS
In 2021, Kira started exploring the optical qualities in glass through the creation of hand-made, kiln cast glass snowflakes, which are being presented during the first Science Museum Christmas Lates focusing on fractals.
In nature, snowflakes are fractal-like. Each branch contains self-similarity but the pattern is not endless as there is a limit as to how many times it can repeat. Whilst each Glass Snowflake is made using a similar mould the final outcome is always different due to the glass plaster mould itself, the ratio of glass added to the mould and how the glass casts.
