What is each artwork made from and how?

Glass

All my glass sculptures are made using Glass, and most often Bullseye Glass. Before each work is fired I hand carve each mould and once the mould is bone dry I fill it with my chosen glass colours. Each glass piece is fired in a kiln and depending on the artwork will either be fired 1-3 times to create the final artwork. Each firing varies in time, and take anywhere from three days to a week.

Works on Paper

My works on paper are all created using handmade watercolours and inks, and I use heavy weight drawing paper or acid free, cold pressed water colour paper.

Ceramics

All my ceramic sculptures are made using Parian clay. Parian clay is known for its self-glazing body and translucency. Each work is fired in the kiln twice. The first firing is called bisque and the purpose of this firing is to convert the ‘greenware’ into a semi-vitrified porous surface that has bee =n dehydrated of all chemically bonded water and also burns out any carbonaceous materials (like organic materials or paper). The second firing is called Full Fire and this firing takes the Parian to temperatures between 1200 to 1300 degrees Celsius where it ‘matures’, becoming as hard as rock.

Will my KPK artwork be signed?

All my works on paper are signed on front right hand of the work, as well as signed and dated on the back of the work. All my glass and ceramic sculptures come with a Certificate of Authenticity that must accompany the work.

How to care for a glass artwork.

Once a glass artwork is in its new home I always suggest it is displayed out of reach of children and pets. If you notice the glass artwork has gathered dust please use a microfibre cloth to wipe away the dust or if the glass piece has a rougher surface you can run it under cold water, then you can pat dry with a microfibre cloth or let it dry naturally. Do NOT put any glass artwork in the dishwasher as this could crack the glass.

How is the glass artwork installed?

Depending on the work, there are different display options from hanging systems for the wall, acrylic stand or free-standing. If you purchase an artwork the specific instructions will be included, along with the methods for display. Examples of the instructions are below.

How is the artwork packed?

For Works on Paper I will either send them in a card envelope or for larger works rolled in a tube.

For Glass Sculptures and Ceramic Sculptures I pack the work in tissues paper, followed by bubble wrap, then a presentation box, bubble wrap, foam and finally in a double walled cardboard box. If the work is bigger than 32 x 32cm I will replace the double walled cardboard box with a plywood crate.

Is the packaging recyclable?

As an artist and glass maker I am very aware of my material usage and carbon foot print. I believe in being environmentally accountable through waste reduction and energy conservation. I like to work with companies who share my vales. I buy my merchandising materials and packaging from from several companies, including Paperchase, Ikea and Moo.com. All these companies are working hard to ensure they supply items that are either easily recyclable or are made from recycled materials. I also recommend that any packaging that comes with the artwork is kept incase the artwork needs to be transported at another date.

How is the artwork posted or shipped?

When sending works on paper unframed within the UK, I use The Royal Mail, Track and Sign. *I usually don’t send work framed as there is a high risk the frame or glass may break in transit and damage the work. If you would like to discuss frame possibilities with me, please contact me directly.

When sending glass sculptures I use Ebiss or other art handling companies. If you live within an hours driving distance from me, I am happy to arrange delivery of glass artwork in person.

Which Countries do you ship to?

Works on paper are shipped Globally.

Glass Sculptures are shipped Globally. If you live in Europe, America, Asia or Africa I would need to review the shipping requirements at the time purchase.

How much does it cost to post or ship the artwork?

The cost of posting and shipping work has increased in recent years and will vary on where you live. I aim to keep costs down, while choosing the most suitable method for the artwork to be delivered safely to you. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Can I, the Client, collect the artwork in person?

If you wish to collect any artwork you purchase from me in person we can discuss arrangements.

Insurance

Whilst the artwork is in my care, it is under my insurance. Once the artwork has been sent or collected from my premises, it will be in the care of the postal or shipping insurance, which is included in the P&P price. I always encourage clients to add the artwork to their personal insurance as soon as they have purchased the artwork and discuss with their insurance company if the work will be covered in transit, as this can reduce the shipping cost.

What happens if the artwork is broken upon arrival?

It is highly unlikely that a work on paper will be damaged in transit, but should a work arrive damaged please contact me and your insurance company directly.

If you have decided to purchase one of my artworks please be aware that glass, even if it is well packaged, can break. Before I send the work to any client I strongly advise adding the new work to your insurance and I always make sure that shipping insurance is added to the shipping cost, unless your insurance company is able to cover the shipping insurance.

What happens if I break the glass artwork after it has been delivered?

If this should happen, please contact me and your insurance company directly. I am happy to supply any documents you might need to make your claim.

If a glass artwork has broken in transit and costs reclaimed on insurance, can the same artwork be made again?

All my artworks are unique and all are one-off works. I can offer a similar piece in the same price bracket if I have it in my collection or we can start a commission. *Please bear in mind that the new work will need to be purchased at the full retail price.
